Forgotten Terrors - September '23

Hello all!

Just a quick one, I've added Forgotten Terrors to the file list, the game's third volume and a big compendium of NPCs and adversaries. The book includes 6 random encounter tables for different environments, and 51 different NPCs and creatures to interact with.

My favourite is the Strzygi, inspired by Slavic vampire mythology.

Strzygi
HD 3
AC 5, Damage 2D6
Number appearing: 1

Born under an ill-moon, with two hearts beating beneath pallid flesh. Blood-sucking, flesh-eating undead creatures that can take the form of an owl to swoop down on unsuspecting prey.

Those killed by the Stryzgi will rise from the grave after D6 days, unless decapitated with the head buried separately to the rest of the body. Placing a flint in the head's mouth and an iron stake through the heart ensures the corpse will never rise again.

I've also made a handful of quality of life improvements to the core rules.

Next up, I'm going to release all the hexes for the East Prussian section of the map.

You can expect to find a whole mix of different hexes, from the mundane to the mystifying. Have a look:

An overgrown orchard sprawls out along the hillside, filled with the stench of overripe fruit. Rotting apples shrivel beneath the spreading boughs, colonised by a host of flies and maggots. A thick tangle of roots and brambles weaves between the trunks, with tendrils as thick as a human forearm in some places. The wood seems to creak and groan of its own accord, as if it was being buffeted by a gale.

An abandoned tractor rusts by one of the dilapidated gates, holes punched in the body panels by questing vines. Hidden beneath the wreck is the body of a hapless farmer, imprisoned in a cage of ensnaring brambles. The shrivelled corpse clutches a battered but serviceable sawed-off shotgun to its chest, both barrels discharged. Tucked into the body's threadbare overalls is a blunted billhook and a bottle of brandy.

The canopy grows thicker towards the centre of the orchard, the trees bent double under some truly gargantuan apples. In the gloom, the primordial growth opens onto a clearing with a single hazel tree at the centre. A crumpled skeleton with decidedly inhuman proportions lies enmeshed with the thick roots. Tiny pellets of silver are embedded in the bark directly above the skeleton. More can be found within the skull and ribcage. A snarling face can be faintly glimpsed in the gnarled bark.

1D6 Golden Apples dangle from the tree's gnarled branches. Attempting to pick the magical fruit awakens an angry spirit within the tree, causing it to attack with great sweeps of its branches. The hazel tree has 5HD and deals 2D6 damage with each attack.

I'm also planning to flesh out travelling in cities, with a supplement exploring urban environments in more detail. Here's a sneak preview of the Konigsberg map.
